How To Judge The Authenticity Of Artificial Fur? How To Care For Faux Fur?

What is faux fur?

The term "fur" refers to fabrics made from long-haired animals.

Mink fur provides most of the fur that is harvested. Additionally, the fur is taken from a variety of animal species, such as rabbits and muskrats.

Fabrics made from faux fur are often referred to as fake fur, faux fur, or faux fur.

Compared to real fur, these textiles may come from animals such as minks, beavers, weasels, rabbits, or foxes, and are made from synthetic fibers that are completely free of animal cruelty.

Because fake fur looks and feels similar to real fur, it can be classified according to the type of animal fur it is most similar to.

Luxurious faux fur materials include faux mink, chinchilla, sable, lynx, beaver, mink, mink, and leopard.

Each fur fabric has its own unique pile, which may vary in length and softness. It is very important to follow naps when cutting and sewing your fake fur. Nap refers to the direction in which the fluff is slanted, and it's crucial to follow the nap.

High-pile faux fur, medium-pile faux fur, and short-pile faux fur, commonly referred to as low-pile, are all part of the variety that is now available on the market.

How to judge authenticity

Be sure to check the backing to make sure you're getting 100% faux fur. If you part the fur with your fingertips, you can see the fabric backing underneath.

Carefully inspect the fiber ends. Compared to the spiky points of natural fur, synthetic hairs are rounded because they are machine-cut.

Burn testing involves taking a small sample and burning it on a fire-resistant surface such as stone, tile, or thick metal strips.

Check the smell and ashes to see if you can stand it. The fur is real, although it looks like burnt hair. The fur is likely made of acrylic, cotton, linen, or rayon if it smells like melted plastic or paper.

Insert the pin into the dirt. If the metal needles slide easily between the fibers, you're looking at fake fur, which has a synthetic base and therefore has smooth, stretchy fibers.

Still, if you have to put a fair amount of force on the pins, you can be sure that the leather construction is a clear sign of using real fur. The lighter weight is a less predictable but still typical feature of fake fur textiles.

care instructions

The best way to clean fake fur is to hand wash it with a mild detergent.

Put the fake fur in the washing machine with the detergent. Stir the fur in the water for 10 to 15 minutes.

Don't screw up all the work and rack your brains.

Drain and rinse, then roll in a towel to remove excess moisture.

Drizzle and dry. Never dry fake fur at high temperatures. If exposed to heat, faux fur strands may fuse together and form a cushion.

Use a brush with soft bristles to gently unravel any cushions in the fur.
